Mosaic Workshop Courses (glass & pique-assiette)

New for 2025, learn the traditional art of mosaics using both new and recycled materials in a fun and creative environment.

Let us guide you in creating your own fabulous mosaics in your own unique style.

We offer morning or afternoon taster lessons (3 hours) and one day & two day courses. There is also a 2 day advanced course for people who already have some mosaic experience and want to build on their existing skills. Longer three day, five day and 1 week long holiday courses are available for more indepth specialist training.

Extra added morning or afternoon grouting sessions (2 hours) are also available as shorter courses can't include grouting of your finished artwork, due to the necessary 24hr adhesive drying time. Grouting demonstrations and home grouting kits, or the option of collection (with us grouting for you) will be included on these shorter courses.

We take groups of 2 to 6 people and courses are available in English and also French.

What is pique-assiette?

Pique-assiette is a style of mosaic that incorporates ceramic shards, broken dishes and other found objects into a design. While traditional mosaics use small square cubes, usually uniformly shaped, pique-assiette uses non-uniform pieces. The term pique-assiette has a French origin and means "stolen plate" or "broken plate" and it also refers to someone who is a "scrounger", which is the perfect word because most pique-assiette art is created out of recycled or "scrounged" materials. There is a long tradition of using broken and discarded materials to create folk art.
