Pique-assiette (recycled mosaics)

We create hand-crafted decorative recycled ceramic mosaic creations inspired by native wildlife.

What is pique-assiette?

Pique-assiette is a style of mosaic that incorporates ceramic shards, broken dishes and other found objects into a design. While traditional mosaics use small square cubes, usually uniformly shaped, pique-assiette uses non-uniform pieces. The term pique-assiette has a French origin and means "stolen plate" or "broken plate" and it also refers to someone who is a "scrounger", which is the perfect word because most pique-assiette art is created out of recycled or "scrounged" materials. There is a long tradition of using broken and discarded materials to create folk art.

I combine the traditional technique of pique-assiette, with my own unique style to create one off eye-catching wildlife designs for your home. I'm not afraid of colour and love to craft colourful whimsical fantasy animals to adorn your walls, which also serve to raise awareness of these animals fragile lives in their rapidly decreasing homes in their wild places.
